Cleaning Protocol for Stainless Steel
Viking stainless steel cookware is durable and easy to maintain. However, high heat can cause discoloration that looks concerning but doesn't affect performance. Here's how to address common issues.
Rainbow Stains (Heat Tint)
Those beautiful rainbow colors are caused by chromium oxide buildup from overheating. They're harmless but can be removed.
Cleaning Method:
- Let the pan cool completely
- Apply white vinegar or Bar Keeper's Friend
- Scrub gently with a soft sponge in circular motions
- Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth
White Spots (Calcium Deposits)
White cloudy spots are mineral deposits from hard water. They don't affect cooking performance.
Cleaning Method:
- Boil a solution of 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water in the pan
- Let it simmer for 5-10 minutes
- Let cool, then wash normally with dish soap
- Dry immediately to prevent new deposits
Daily Cleaning
For everyday cleaning, simply wash with warm soapy water and a soft sponge. For stuck-on food, let the pan soak in warm soapy water for 15-20 minutes before scrubbing. Avoid abrasive cleaners or steel wool on the cooking surface.

Copper Cookware Restoration
Viking's Copper Clad cookware features a beautiful exterior that develops a natural patina over time. While patina adds character, you can restore the original shine whenever desired.
Restoring Copper Shine
- 1.Choose Your Cleaner: Use a commercial copper cleaner (like Wright's Copper Cream) or make a paste with equal parts salt, flour, and white vinegar
- 2.Apply Gently: Using a soft cloth, rub the cleaner in circular motions
- 3.Rinse & Dry: Wash thoroughly with warm soapy water and dry immediately with a soft towel
- 4.Optional Protection: Apply a thin layer of mineral oil to slow future tarnishing
Pro Tip: The copper exterior is decorative and doesn't require frequent polishing. Many chefs prefer the aged patina look. Only polish when you want that brilliant shine back for special occasions or display.
Temperature & Cooktop Compatibility
Oven Safety
Stainless Steel & Copper Pans:
600°F (315°C)
Safe for high-temperature searing, roasting, and broiling
Glass Lids (3-Ply Contemporary):
350°F (177°C)
Remove glass lids before high-heat oven use
Hard Anodized Nonstick:
400°F (204°C)
Safe for most oven cooking and baking
Important: Always use oven mitts. Handles will be extremely hot after oven use.
Cooktop Compatibility
Induction
All Viking Cookware features magnetic stainless steel for induction compatibility
Gas
Excellent heat control and even heating on gas stovetops
Electric
Flat bottoms ensure maximum contact with electric coils and smooth-top ranges
Ceramic & Halogen
Compatible with all glass-ceramic cooktops
Pro Tip: Viking's superior thermal conductivity means you can use lower heat settings than with standard cookware, saving energy and preventing food from burning.
Dishwasher Safety
Yes, Viking Cookware is dishwasher safe.
However, we recommend hand washing to maintain the beautiful finish and extend the life of your cookware. Harsh dishwasher detergents can dull the exterior over time, and the high heat can accelerate discoloration. Hand washing with warm soapy water takes just minutes and keeps your cookware looking showroom-new.
For nonstick cookware: Always hand wash to protect the nonstick coating. Dishwasher detergents can break down the coating over time.

Additional Care Tips
Preheating
Always preheat your pan over medium heat for 2-3 minutes. Viking's superior conductivity means you rarely need high heat. Use the water droplet test: if it forms a ball and rolls around, it's ready.
Storage
If stacking pans, place a soft cloth or pan protector between them to prevent scratches. Store with lids slightly ajar to allow air circulation and prevent odors.
Avoid Thermal Shock
Never place a hot pan under cold water or on a cold surface. Allow it to cool naturally to prevent warping. The multi-ply construction is durable, but extreme temperature changes can stress any metal.
Utensils
Stainless steel cookware is metal utensil safe, but wooden or silicone utensils will keep it looking pristine longer. For nonstick cookware, always use non-metal utensils to protect the coating.
